The need to increase production performances and the animal’s daily nutritional requirements, determines the amount of food required to satisfy all activities and vital functions of the animal:
– the most common functional activities (walking, breathing, thermoregulation, etc.);
– growth in juvenile stage and recovery of weight during the year – the production (milk, meat, etc.);
– reproduction (mating and pregnancy);
Food requirements change based on the present physiological state of the animals. Their (total or partial) satisfaction depends on the quality and quantity of daily food that they can voluntarily ingest.
